ShareThis Icon imageThis post is in answer to the question, ”What is the ShareThis icon you see at the end of every post?”

To paraphrase the programmer’s Web site, ShareThis is a one-step sharing tool that makes sharing information online hassle free. It is the easiest and most efficient way to share anything you want, where you want, to who you want!

Share with many friends in one step:

ShareThis image ShareThis lets you share content from this site to MySpace, Facebook, AIM, email, and even SMS to mobile devices simultaneously.

ShareThis also allows you to easily share to any of your friends by importing your contacts from Gmail, Yahoo, Facebook, MySpace, AIM, Outlook and more. Try it out, it is very easy to use.

The Site Is Back On-line

Bob's pictureOK, so here is what happened to cause the site to be off-line for so long. It suffered a severe system crash while I was attempting to upgrade the Content Management System (CMS) that I use to create this blog.

The needed repair proved to be more extensive that I originally anticipated. Naturally, this happened in the midst of way too many projects-in-progress. Thus, I had to wait until I had the free time to fix what broke.

The bottom line is that the system now seems to be back to normal. In the not too distant future I hope to re-vamp the site to better serve your information needs. I maintain the site so that my friends (both met and un-met) can get information that they might not otherwise see.

I am Sorry for any inconvenience caused by the site being dark. If you missed it, click on Comments below and tell me about it. That is how I will decide whether it will be worth the effort to bring it back up next time.

I have added a new feature to the blog. In the sidebar, under Pages, you will find the new Slideshow choice.

Slideshow, as its name suggests, will show you a slideshow of some of the photographs I have taken.

A link is provided at the bottom of each blog page to my complete collection on Flickr.

Let me know if you enjoy the pictures. Otherwise, I will quit promoting them.

I love this story. It is the way I want to go out.

Olive Riley An Australian woman often described as the world’s oldest blogger has died at the age of 108 after posting a final message about her ailing health but how she sang "a happy song, as I do every day."

Olive Riley posted more than 70 entries on her blog — or "blob" as she jokingly called it — since February 2007.

Olive Riley died Saturday at a nursing home in New South Wales.

On the site, The Life of Riley, and in a series of videos post on YouTube, Riley mused on her day-to-day life. She also recounted living through two world wars and raising three children on her own while working as a cook and a bar maid. (Read more)

Need to pick up a little AJAX knowledge to give your website a bit of polish? Have less than a robust knowledge of how databases work? Google Code University offers a heaping helping of computer science knowledge for free. Even better, the site includes a CS Curriculum Search, which can find programming topics within materials published by the world’s computer science schools. So if you only need a specific bit of PHP knowledge to move a project along, you might find just what you’re looking for without having to plunk down cash for a thick manual. Would-hackers looking into Firefox extensions and basic JavaScript, this is a great place to start. LINK

As you have probably noticed, that always takes about a week of your time longer than you originally budgeted.

Back in the Saddle Again

I am sorry for the scarcity of posts over the last week. Blame some of it on Thanksgiving. Our daughter was back in Michigan from San Fransisco for the holiday. Also, my mother-in-law had some major surgury that required a lot of our attention for a few days and I am in the process of doing some library web development that is fun, but time consuming.

If you missed my almost daily posts, drop me an e-mail to give me some encouragement to continue. This stuff does take time and effort, you know. My address can be found on the “Contact” page that is accessible from the menu above.
